Kitty: What attracted you to make loungue wear?

Charlotte: I decided to make nightwear to make going to bed or relaxing even more exciting. I really believe that sleep and rest are some of the most important, sacred times of each day. When we have proper rest and relaxation we tend to live happier and healthier lives.

I was looking around for some pyjamas which would make me want to have a better nighttime routine but I couldn’t find the perfect ones for me.

At the same time, I was working in a bridal boutique that specialised in eco-friendly gowns which used bamboo silk, I fell in love with the material and every night I wanted to sleep in one of the gowns. The pyjamas that I make really do come from a place of love from me because I want everyone to sleep better so that they can ultimately be happier. The pyjamas are just my way of making something that will hopefully make my customers happier and that they can treat themselves every night to luxurious rest.

Kitty: Why 🌶?

Charlotte: The Basque Edition is inspired by the Espelette Peppers which I see dried and hanging in bars, restaurants and outside houses in Briattiz. Biarritz is my favourite place in the world so it was always going to inspire my designs. It is the place where I feel the most relaxed and where I always sleep the best - I have so many fond memories of sitting outside of restaurants in the sunshine with family and friends surrounded by these peppers. I  just enjoy being able to inject these memories into the designs.

Kitty: What makes you care about being sustainable?

Charlotte: From an environmental perspective, it’s just a love of nature that makes me care about sustainability. I love being out in nature, whether that is in the sea, in mountains or just in a garden and this love has driven me to learn how we can protect our natural world. I also don’t really think it is a choice anymore, we all have to care about being sustainable now.

My contribution to my commitment is to do my research, to work with only organic and GOTS certified materials and to work exclusively with ethical factories. I make it a priority for my business to stay close and informed about our entire supply chain so that I know who is making the clothes, the working conditions of everyone involved and the production process of our materials.

Kitty: How can the fashion industry help to fight the climate crisis?

Charlotte: By encouraging consumers to make mindful choices and to buy less but buy higher quality items which last a long time.

Kitty: Do you believe that humans will survive from the climate crisis? If you were a policy maker, what policy would you change?

Charlotte: I do believe that humans can achieve amazing things and make wonderful changes if we focus and make sustainability a priority.

A policy that I would implement would be addressing the issue of transparency around the production process and supply chain for companies. If companies were required to provide this information then I believe it would change the production process for the better. When this information is offered to consumers, it allows people to make more informed decisions when purchasing an item.  If a company doesn’t share information about material productions or waste, for example, then consumers tend not to be aware of the impact which an item of clothing is causing. I do think that we need cultural shifts and transformation in order to stop environmental damage. When transpareny is offered hopefully this will force copanies to have better practices whilst encouraging consumers to be more conscious of their consumption.

Weekend DIY - JEWELLERY BOX

Few years ago, I received a jewellery box from a friend as a gift of being her bridesmaid. I used the jewellery box for many years. I put my earrings and rings in the box. However, it was so messy and it was difficult to search for the jewellery from the box.

Few weeks ago, I got a few new pieces from a jewellery shop and each jewellery came with a separate box. It was a waste to just throw away the boxes, so I custom made a jewellery "drawer" that suits my need.

How:
I grab some existing foams from other packaging. I use a scissor to cut the shape to fit the jewellery. Each box has their own purpose, for rings, for pearl earrings, for hoop earrings, for bigger rings and for silver earrings.

Easy peasy.

The Perfect Bamboo

After graduating from university (majoring in environmental related subject), I wanted to take some time off to explore the place I have seen a lot in documentaries when I was a kid - the Amazon.

I participated in a scientific research internship in the Amazon Rainforest for 9 months and study the ecological value of different forest types. In my study area, there were regenerating forest, primary forest, and bamboo forest. Different forest types have different ecological functions and values. All of them are unique and special.

The experience in the Amazon changed the way I see nature.

I see nature as a system of different individuals interacting with each other and thriving together. And we, human, are benefiting from that system.

For example, the bandeau and undie I am wearing is made of bamboo fabric. It contains an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal bio-agent that makes the product odour-resistant. It is soft and gentle for sensitive skin. This is a good example of the many benefits nature provides.

Happy Women's day!

On this Women’s Day,  I would like to encourage you beauties to practice self-love and build a healthy relationship with yourself.

Here are some tips from me

1. Spend quality time with yourself
Don’t be embarrassed to go to a meal just by yourself. Nobody really cares, and if they do, it is none of their business and you don’t really care if they care.

2. You are your own priority
Don’t be afraid to say ‘no’ to other’s suggestions. Go with your flow and don’t do stuff just to please somebody. Please yourself instead.

3. Do stuff that makes you happy
Save time for yourself to do stuff that makes you happy. And you can do it just by yourself. Believe it or not, I was DIY-ing my jewellery drawer last weekend happily.

4. Get a gift for yourself
The last gift I got myself was a pair of leopard print Valentino gloves, I got it half price when it was on sales at Net-a-Porter. It was the last pair in my size! I was so happy. I have really cold fingers during winter and these gloves keeps me warm. I will make sure I look after them well and use them forever. #buylesschoosewell

5. Believe in yourself
There is always ups and downs in life. Otherwise, you would not understand what is true happiness. Therefore, you must be your biggest cheerleader when you are at your lowest. Tell yourself how good you are and be positive!
Never depend on others to love you. Love yourself as if you are the princess in Frozen.
